BHEEP AT FRANKTON BEEF MARKET FIRM Average entries were on offer at the weekly Frankton 6tock sale to-day when there was no material alteration in price levels. Sheep were a shade easier, however, but firm to higher values were obtained in other sections. A smaller entry of ox beef was in good demand and values showed little alteration from those current last week. The top price was £l4, with best sorts generally making from £ll 15s to £l3 ss. Extra choice 6orts in the cow and heifer beef department' were traded readily and values at times appeared a little better. A limited number of tops were traded from £9 10s to £ll ss. Cows were again eagerly sought at unchanged rates, while the market remained firm for boner cattle. The quality in the fat sheep pens did not compare favourably with that last week and this, together with the smaller degree of competition from butchers, resulted in a slight easing. Both wethers and ewes were down a shade but there was no appreciable difference for a small entry of fat lambs. Buyers again showed a keen demand for' fat pigs and values in all cases were fully firm with a top price jof 89s for baconers as against 88s' last j week. i Quotations: j Beef: Prime steers. £l3 5s to £l4; lighter, £ll 5s to £l2 ss; small, £8 5s to £10; extra choice cows and heifers. £9 10s to £ll ss; lighter. £7 10s to £8 15s; fat. £5 10s to £6 10s; small. £3 10s to £4 15s.
