ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES
OPPOSITION TO DUTIES CONFLICT IN STATE POLICY (By Telegraph.—Special to Times.) TE AROHA, Tuesday The following resolution was passed at a meeting of the Thames Valley Power Board to-day:— “That this board considers the imposition of customs duties upon materials required in electrical construction work and on electrical appliances is diametrically opposed to the announced policy of the Government to popularise further the use of electric current. “That- such duties not only tend to defeat the policy of popularising electricity but their existence, concurrently with the huge expenditure for increasing the capacity of the hydroelectric works, amounts to a ridiculous and wasteful internal conflict in State policy, thus imposing avoidable burdens upon consumers and taxpayers. This board therefore urges the Government to remove all duties upon electrical construction materials and appliances."
