VETERAN JOURNALIST
MR REGINALD ALEXANDER DEATH AT WHAKATANE (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WHAKATANE, Monday The death occurred suddenly "on Saturday night of Mr Reginald Alexander, editor of the Bay of Plenty Press, aged 68. A veteran newspaperman and well known to many journalists throughout the Dominion, Mr Alexander had spent practically the whole of his life in the service of city and provincial newspapers in New Zealand. He commenced a journalistic career after some years gold mining as a youth on the West Coast of the South Island. His first newspaper venture was the establishment of the Murchison paper. Deceased later served on the staffs of the Stratford and Dannevirke papers, the Hawke’s Bay Tribune, the Whangarei Advocate, the Auckland Star, the Auckland Sun and the Rotorua Post. At one time he was Parliamentary reporter for the Press Association. Three years ago he was appointed editor of the Bay of Plenty Press. His end, which was not forshadowed by ill-health, will be widely regretted.
