WESLEYS CONVERSION 81-CENTENARY TO-MORROW PRELIMINARY SERVICES HELD With the celebrations in connection with the foundation of the Methodist Church taking place in Hamilton tomorrow. services were held at St. Pauls Hamilton, and St. Johns, Hamilton East. jesterday. The forthcoming anniversary is that of the con version of the Methodist leader. John Wesley, on May 24. 173*. and will be recognised by the Church throughout the world. Special services were held yesterday morning, afternoon and evening at St. Paul » Church, the preacher being the Rev. R. B. Tinsley, in the morning he dealt with John Wesley and his doctrine of assurance, while in the evening he referred to the central preaching of the founder, the text being “God So Loved the World ” The Afternoon was devoted to the Sunday School and here Mr Tinsley spoke on ‘ Great Days In the Life of John Wesley.” All the services were well attended. To-morrow the anniversary will be marked by a combined circuit rally At which the speakers will be Mr Tinsley and the Rev. j. \v. Parker, of Faankton. Mr J. R. Fow will preside. ®t. John's Gathering Thera were large congregations at both the morning and evening servloee yesterday at St. John s Church. Hamilton East. The morning congregation was addressed by Mr R. F. Clement. In the evening the Rev. G. E. Brown took the service, at which 12 new member* were received, and Communion was celebrated. Special music wa» provided by the choir. A service was also held In the morning at Matangl, Mr Brown taking as his •übject “The Changed Life ” Here a tablet commemorating the occasion was unveiled. This evening at St. John's a youth rally will be held and the congregation will be addressed by the Rev. O. H. Goodman, of Cambridge. The commemoration service to-morrow evening will be briefly addressed by the circuit stewards. Messrs J. T. Bryant, W. Wheatley, L. Money and R. F. Clement. Special music will be provided by the choir, while another tablet will be unveiled. At 8.45. the exact hour of John Weeley’e conversion. a reading from his Journal describing the event will be given. This will be followed by a social gathering. On the following Sunday another commemoration tablet will be unveiled at Rototuna.
