MEAT IN BRITAIN
FROZEN OR CHILLED PRICES FOR LAMB EASIER LATEST SMITJIFIELD QUOTATIONS (Special to Times) WELLINGTON, Monday. Recent higher prices on the Smithfield market for lamb have been slightly checked, according to tlie weekly report of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. Both the demand and Hie price are a shade easier. In the mutton market wethers are unchanged, but trade is slow. Ewes are dull, with lower prices for heavyweights. Chilled beef prices are firmer this week, owing to reasonsable supplies and a good demand. There is no frozen beef available. Values for New Zealand porker, pigs are lower, following the usual seasonal contraction of demand. New Zealand baconer pigs are a shade easier, owing to a slightly weaker market for bacon. The weekly quotations are based on actual sales of wholesale quantities of carcases of mutton or lamb or of quarters of beef delivered to Smithfield market and 'or London stores. In the case of chilled beef the rates represent the approximate prices realised for the week at per lb. To arrive at the equivalent ex ship values one farthing per pound should ba deducted from the prices quoted above. Quotations given represent the i average for the week, and are not | selected lines, but for parcels fairly ! representative of the bulk of sliip- ] ments now on offer.
