•ILK SOX BOOREB OVER HURDLES VALAMITO AND FARLAND SCORE TE RAPA HORSES WIN Ideal ■weather conditions prevailed at Te Rapa on Saturday for the opening day of the Waikato Racin* Club’s winter fixture and. as was anticipated following the fine response from owners, a most successful day's racing eventuated, totalisator returns showing a substantial increase on la«t season's corresponding figures. The only favourites to score on the day were ♦he Te Rapa representatives. Hunting Blood and Du Maurier. winners of the respective divisions of the Otorohanga Hack. Huskie annexed the major honours of the day's programme, being ridden a confident race by the local horseman. J. Muir. Silk Sox won the Waikato Hurdles, while in the principal flat events Yalamito and Farland, both of whom were well supported on the machines, prevailed. The biggest surprise of the day was that of General Ruse in the concluding event, the Matamata gelding returning over a score orv the win machine. The attendance was the best yet experienced at a similar meeting at headquarters, the cate takings totalling £9og. an increase of £?»0 on the first day last season.
