Leighton was elected chairman of the Waltemata ElectricPower Board, Auckland, yesterday for the seventh consecutive term. Mr Neville Chamberlain, Prime Minister of Britain, has recovered from an attack of gout and Is spending the week-end with friends In the country. The Minister of Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone, who has been visiting the Hauraki Plains, passed through Frankton Junction last evening en route to Wellington. He'rr Ernst Skardarasy, who has been engaged to teach skiing this winter at the Chateau Tongariro, expected to leave Naples by the Oronsay on May 1. He is due to arrive in Wellington about June 8, and will take' up his duties immediately. Mr H. C. Gregory, manager of the Newmarket branch of the Commercial Bank of Australia, Limited, for four years, and formerly of Hamilton, has received advice of his promotion to the management of the Napier branch of the bank. Mr E. F. Carpenter has been selected by the British Air Ministry for duty in New Zealand as chief inspector of aircraft in exchange for Mr R. C. Kean, who will proceed to England shortly after Mr Carpenter arrives. Mr H. T. Prendergast, son of Mr and Mrs M. E. Prendergasf, of Hamilton, was awarded the Sir George Grey scholarship in science at a recent meeting of the Auckland University College Council. He was formerly a pupil of the Marist Brothers High School, Hamilton. Appreciation of the services of Mr H. O. Mellsop during his five years' term as Auckland Provincial president of the Farmers’ Union, was voiced by delegates at the Provincial Conference yesterday, when the retiring president was presented with a cheque in recognition of his work for the union. Messrs P. M. Morpeth (Wellington), J. L. Taylor, R. H. Free, S. Stanners, G. Brown (Eltham), R. Grace, G. R. Grace (Wanganui), L. S. Durie, W. Dickson (Gisborne), W. R. Smith, C. G. Warner (Auckland , H- T. Lovell (Hawera) and G. W. Fairweather (Christchurch) are at the Hamilton Hotel.
