LORRY-DRIVER FINED (Special to Times)
TE AROHA. Friday
At the B.M. Court berore Mr W. H. Freeman, Norman Dawson, lorry-driver, was charged with driving at a speed or 70 miles per hour on the Te ArohaPaeroa main highway. The prosecution was conducted by Mr E. H. Barrett, chief traffic officer of the department, Wellington. Defendant stated he did not realise the speed at which he was travelling. He was fined £5 with costs 12s.
The Lloenelng Act A case arising out or the Licensing Act requiring that berore a licensee can vacate his premises for a period over 14 davs, he must have his relieving manager approved by the district licensing Authority was heard, Mr T. M. Curran being charged In this connection. He was represented by Mr N T . £. Johnson, or Hamilton, and associated was Mr A. McVeigh, Auckland.
Defendant considered that his nominee would be acceptable to the Tauranga Licensing Committee. He left for Sydney but when the aut%orlty met some time later the application was rejected. Constable Hinton conducted the case, which was admittedly brought by the department more by way of advertising the responsibilities or licensees In tnis connection. Counsel claimed that the client had done all In his power to comply with the law before leaving on a holiday. The magistrate said he thought he was entitled to assume that the dependent was justified in supposing his nominee would be accepted berore be lert and dismissed the case i rider Section 92 or the Justice of the Peace Act.
