SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL
PRODUCER TAKES LIBERTIES THEATRE ROCKS WITH LAUGHTER People who think that to trifle with any work of Shakespeare is rather worse than blasphemy will not like Komisarjevsky's way of doing “The Comedy of Errors,” which, as guest producer, he presented at the Memorial Theatre at Stratford-on-Avon, says the London Daily Mall. Others who find the normal presentation of the comedy singularly uncomic will delight In his gaily ingenuous production. His street Is a scene of dolls’ houses In pastel shades. His costumes suggest Christmas pantomime as it might be staged in Moscow. Fantastic, citizens wear pink, hard felt hats, brown
toppers, scarlet coats, and green breeches.
In short, Mr Komlsarjevsky took audacious liberties and got away with It. The Memorial Theatre rocked with laughter.
The cast in this case is less important than the producer, but James Dale and Sheldon Bishop, Andrew Leigh and Dennis Roberts touch lightly and successfully on the two pairs of twins, and Valeria Tudor was a pleasing Adriana.
