MONTHLY STATEMENT ADVANCES AND DEPOSITS (Sp«»C*al to TtTTIP?) WELLINGTON, Friday The monthly statement of assets and lfabltlltles of the six trading banks on Monday. April 25, are gazetted. A comparison of the principal Items, with the corresponding figures in the return at March 28, is as follows: — April March Circulation .. £10,577.8*0 £9,500.181 Free deposits . 38.328.341 37.006.21* Fixed deposits . 31,401.894 31.224.6*7 Advances .... 5*.25*.054 55.837.453 London assets . 7,528.050 7,462,020 Free deposits have increased by over £1.300.000 in the month the return covers. The rise between February 28 and March 28 was £530,600. Fixed deposits have also gained in the March-Aprll period, the rise being about £270,000. Advances and discounts continue to increase, the gain in the four weeks since March return having been some £-420,000. Assets held in London on New Zealand account are £G6,000 higher, compared xvllh an increase of £771.000 in the March statement. Notes of th** Reserve Bank held as till money on April 25 were valued at £3.50i.702. The issue at that date totalled £1 i. 082.262. making an active circulation of £10.577,500. There has been a rise of £1.041.079 for the month. Free Deposits Lower Free deposits or current account balances were £190.000 lower at the •' r year than at the date last year. The excess of deposits over advances has decreased from £23.479.000 in April. 1937, to £13,367,000 in the latest statement, a fall of nearly £10,000,000 In twelve . months.
