LIQUOR AT GOLF CLUB
BECRETARY FINED £5 WARNING BY MAGISTRATE (By Telegranh —prf<«s Association) WELLINGTON, Friday Two constables went out to the Paekakariki Golf Club on April 3, took part in a game and had no difficulty in purchasing liquor costing 3s in the pavilion. They saw other people also purchase liquor, the secretary being in charge of it. The incident, formed the subject of the prosecution of the secretary, Geoffrey John Warring, before Mr A. M. Goulding, S.M., to-day. It was stated that the premises were searched on a warrant and 30 bottles of ale. one of whisky and a number of “empties” were" seized. Warnings had been given to clubs which were in the habit of allowing the offence to creep in. It was urged by counsel that Warring’s position was only honorary and there had not been any suggestion on his part of selling the liquor for gain. The magistrate said as a warning to other clubs he would impose a fine of £5.
