OLD FIELD GUN
GIFT TO TE AWAMUTU AUCKLAND COUNCIL’S DECISION (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Friday The presentation to the Te Awamutu Historical Society of a field gun used at Orakau in the Maori Wats was decided upon by the Aucklaru City Council. It was stated that tlie gun was on loan from the Mid Colonists’ Museum to a film company whim was making a picture dealing with the battle, and the Te Awamutu Histd*i-
cal Society asked if the council would consider presentine the. gun to the society to form part of its collection of Maori War relics.
A report from the Parks Committee stated it had always been understood that the best place for an article of
historical interest was the locality to which it referred- If a guarantee could be obtained that the gun would be suitably placed and cared for, it was recommended that the request be granted, and the council adopted this course.
