FAREWELL FUNCTIONS
IN HONOUR OF DISTRICT NURSE | PRESEXTATIOXS AT TOKAAXU I i A gathering of the people of Tokaatu district took place in the AA'aihi I all, Tokaanu, recently, to farewell he departing district health nurse, tliss D. E. Petersen, who is leaving 'or America on a six-months' holiday. During the evening dancing was enoved and vocal items were given by tlessrs Joe Hoka, George Rehia and Miss AA'ana Moana. Farewell songs j md a haka were given by the AA’aihi j Maoris. A delicious supper was served j under the management of Mrs J. A. Asher and the Waihi Alaori Ladies' Committee. Presentations were made by Alessrs Hoani Te Heu Heu, chairman of the | ruwharetoa Board, on behalf of : Maoris and pakehas, and Mr Frank . Gallagher made a presentation on benalf of public works employees. Speeches were made by Chief Te Heu Heu. Alessrs R. Patterson, S. A. I McXamara, J- Cullen and A. Grace, to
Miss Sheila MacDonald, younge?t daughter of the late Mr Ramsay MacDonald, is training to become a police court probation officer in London. She has already been doing voluntary work of this type.
which Miss Petersen suitably replied. Delightful Dinner On the eve of her departure on six months’ holiday, a farewell dinner was given by Mr and Airs Hurley, of the Tokaanu Hotel, to Xurse Petersen and her friends. The tables were artistically decorated in shades of green and gold. Mrs Hurley received her guests wearing a model frock of black crepe de chine. The guest-of-honour was wearing a model frock of black velvet trimmed with white and a sptay of white roses. Speeches were made and toasts proposed bv the Rev. Father van Beek, Messrs J. A. Asher, AY. Gosling and S. \. McXamara. Xurse Petersen in reply thanked her friends for their kindness during her slay in Tokaanu. The singing ot "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow” ended an enjoyable function. Those present were: —Alesdames Edkins, Durward, Kay, Dempsey, Tisseman, Asher, AlcXamara, Patterson and Wilson; Xurses Bradford, of Taupo, and Gill, the succeeding nurse at Tokaanu.
•'BON VOYAGE” EVENING To bid “bon voyage” to Mrs Norah Wilson, of Domain Drive, who is shortly leaving on holiday for England, a delightful evening was held on Wednesday at the residence of Miss Joy Duncan, in Hinemoa Street. The Alisses Joy Duncan and A. Johansen were the hostesses, and during the evening Aliss Johansen presented the guest-of-honour with a beautiful bouquet. Songs were given by Aliss Joy Duncan, Airs Xorah Wil-son, Aliss V. Porter, Messrs Spooner, and Mr Keith Priscott, while Miss Porter also entertained with elocutionary items. Mrs R. At. Kelly was the accompanist. Among those present were :—Mesdames R. At. Kelly, X. Wilson, McGrath. Misses V. Porter. Zoe Jones, A. Johansen, J. and X. Duncan.
