LEAMINGTON AFFAIRS

MEETING OF NEW BOARD MAIN HIGHWAYS QUESTION (Special to Times) CAMBRIDGE, Thursday The first monthly meeting or the reappointed Leamington Town Board was held in the Domain Pavilion last evening when there were present Messrs J. w. Garland (chairman), W. Horne, H. Blackman, H. J. Nelson, W. Morrow*, F. L. St. John and the town clerk, Mr R. S. Hanna Two new members, Messrs Morrow and St. John, were welcomed to the board. The Main Highways Board wrote advising that it will be making a review of roads in the near future and the board decided to put in their application to have roads through Leamington reviewed and also to have the main road sealed. Mr Blackman opposed the proposal, as the board had applied for the last two years and had received no satisfaction. The chairman stated that he would rather the board approach the Main Highways Board. Mr St. John said Leamington was a Teeder to the Kairangi settlement and this should be taken into consideration. It was decided to inquire Into the classification or the road. Mr Blackman stated that if roads were classified no heavy lorries would be able to go through, but It was stated that the weights and speeds of lorries had been Increased. The chairman was granted an honorarium of £2O per annum.
