£4,000,000 EXPENDITURE REVIEW BY MR J. A. LEE, M.P. (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday The commitments under the Government's housing scheme amount to £4,000,000, according to a statement made by the Parliamentary Undersecretary in charge of Housing, Mr J. A. Lee. “Land for State housing has been acquired in 83 towns,” said Mr Lee. ‘Tenders have been called for 3777 houses. There are houses occupied in 20 towns. The Housing Construction Department has 153 contracting firms at work or just commencing work. The number of persons directly engaged is 4582, and probably at least 9164 persons are directly deriving employment as a result of the operations-”
