NATIONAL PARTY RALLY
MR GOOSMAN WELCOMED (Special to Times) CAMBRIDGE, Thursday Representatives of 29 branches of the National Party assembled at a meeting in the Peace Memorial Hall when a hearty welcome was extended to the selected candidate for Waikato, Mr W. S. Goosman, on his return from Australia. Mr Edgar James, chairman of the electorate executive, presided. Also in attendance was Mr John Allen, candidate for the Hauraki seat; Mr W. A. Gordon, president of 'the South Auckland Division; Mr R. Braithwaite, secretary of the South Auckland division and Mr N. Dey, organiser. Mrs Goosman was also present. Mr R. D. Fisher extended congratulations to Mr Goosman for being selected as the candidate for Waikato. He issnred him of the support of every | member of the party. Mr Goosman returned his wannest thanks. He said it was a great change for him to enter politics after a lifetime of manual labour. He hoped, that if elected, his practical knowledge would be of value to the country. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Messrs F. Lye and W. A. Grant for offering their services. Mr F. H. Anderson said they had accepted the decision in true sporting spirit. He said it spoke for the strength of the party when three men had come forward.
Mr John Allen also wished Mr Goosman the best of luck. Details of organisation were given by Messrs Braithwaite and Dey. The latter stated that Waikato was the Arst electorate to secure 4000 members.
