MELBOURNE SCHOOL
A NEW HEADMABTER NEW ZEALANDER APPOINTED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) MELBOURNE, May 18 The headmaster of Scots College, Wellington, Mr Joseph Richard Sutcliffe. has been appointed headmaster of Melbourne Church of England Grammar School in succession to Mr D. S. Colman, of England, whose health compelled him tu retire after a year in office. Mr Sutcliffe is in Melbourne, but will return to New Zealand shortly before taking up his duties at the beginning of the third term in August. Borne at Bulls, New Zealand, in 1897, Mr Sutcliffe was educated at Palmerston North High School, where he was dux and was awarded a university bursary, taking the degree of bachelor of science at Victoria College. He is an executive member of the Association of Headmasters of Registered Secondary Schools, New Zealand, and a member of the University Entrance Board. He was appointed headmaster of Scots College eight years ago. Mr Sutcliffe is the second New Zealander appointed to an important church school in Melbourne in recent years, Mr Colin Gilray, of Dunedin having become headmaster of the Scotch College.
