MORE ACUTE THAN EVER
SHORTAGE OF TEACHERS AUCKLAND BOARD'S PROBLEM (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND. Wednesday During the next two terms the Auckland Education Board will face the most acute shortage of teachers yet experienced. The board lias called applications for over 50 positions without much result. and it was slated at to-day's meeting that about 100 would be required to Jill relieving positions in the country. Tt was ajso stated that the closing down of flic teachers’ training colleges during Ihe depression period had left, a serious gap. and girls were now disinclined to take up teaching, preferring commercial positions, and were disinclined to leave their homes for the country. As a result many positions were filled by married women teachers. many of whom had previously been retired.
