AERIAL SCIENTIFIC EXPEDITION FLYING-BOAT TO BE USED United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright NEW YORK, May 17 An aerial scientific expedition is preparing to take off from San Diego on June 1 to fly 8000 miles over the Pacific to New Guinea. The object of the expedition, which will be led by Dr. Richard Archbold, will be the collection of flora and fauna for the American Museum of Natural History. The twin-engined, £62.500 flyingboat which will be used is almost ready for its final tests. Accompanying Dr. Ai.rhboJd will be Mr L. A. Lanecy, navigator, Mr Russell Rogers, pilot. Mr Raymond Booth, wireless operator, and Mr Gerald Brown, flight engineer. The flying-boat has a range of 4000 miles, but its longest flight will be Ihe 2600 miles from San Diego to Honolulu. In New Guinea the aeroplane will be used to drop food, equipment, and supplies to a mobile' ground party. Dr. Archbold attempted a similar expedition In July. 1930. but his seaplane sank on the New Guinea coast.
