BRIGHTER REEF SALE DEMAND AT FRANKTON higher values for sheep Better values for fat sheep and cattle with the demand again keen for fat pigs were features of the Frankton stock market yesterday, when lighter to moderate entries were forward. Butchers were present In full numbers and provided brisk competition. A better supply of ox beef was forward and the qu’ality also showed an improvement. A top price of £l4 was secured, but prices for the best cattle usually ranged from £l2 2s to £l3 7s 6d, with lighter sorts clearing from £9 10s to £ll. The price per 100 lb. for top pens approximated 39s acainsf 38s fid last week. The entry of cows and heifers was again of mixed quality, with occasional choice pens. Attractive cattle made from £7 to £8 10s with a few odd choice sorts changing hands at prices ranging to £lO 14s. An overflow entry of calves was forward, an animated demand resulting in appreciated values being returned. Sheep and Pigs Better quality welhers than last week were available and they were not slow fo change hands at slightly higher values. A top price of 36s 6d was secured for an extra choice pen. while other top lines were quoted from 32s fo 355. Last week lop lines made from 32s to 3 4s. Ewes were also In better request and were frequently dearer, choice sorts making from 22* fid to 24s 9d against 20s 6d to 2is last week. An improved market was also experienced for lambs, which were knocked down from 18s fid to 24s fid.
A smaller entry of fat pigs was eagerly sought at values representing fully late rates, baconers being traded from fifis to 88s and porkers from 30s to fi3s. Light-weight pork, however, was sometimes a little easier. Advanced prices were realised for all classes of store pigs. ors sold from £ll 10s to - £l3 7s 6d. Messrs. Ngatuku had another good line forward, the Putaruru vendors securing prices ranging from £l2 2s to £l3. Good sorts from Mr David Johnstone were in request at prices ranging from £lO 15s to £l2 ss. Other clients sold steers from £9 18s to £lO 12s fid.
A choice line of wethers, sold on account of a Hunterville client, secured Ihe top figure of 36s fid. Another good line was that from Messrs. Ngatuku. Ltd., who sold wethers from 34s 3d to 355. A line from Mr A. L. Boyd realised 30s fid, while 31s was the purchase price of sheep sold tfy Mr T. Keddle. of Huntly. Good sorts from Mr Wilfred Johnstone realised from 30s to 34s 9d.

entire offering being disposed of at late rates. Store and boner cows met with a steady demand, values showing no alteration on recent quotations. For a good yarding of store pigs competition was keen, with a good sale resulting. Prices showed an advance on late quotations, the entire entry being disposed of. GRAIN AND PRODUCE THE AUCKLAND MARKETS AUCKLAND. Wednesday Until the arrival of the Waipiata with 10.000 sacks of South Island potatoes the market was bare of potatoes. It. is not expected that there will be any weakening in the market. Potatoes. —The price from ship’s side for delivery f.o.b. nr f.o.r. Auckland is £7 10* a ton for white and £7 15s a ton for Dakotas. An extra 5s to 7s fid a ton is being charged for lesser quantities from store stocks. Onions.—The through store quotation is 15s per cwt. Wheat. —Supplies are arriving regularly and prices range from 11s 9d to 12s' Id per 1001 b. Maize. —Quotations range from 12s Id to 12s 3d per 1001 b. Barley—Prices for Australian clipped barley range from 10s 6d to 10s 8d per 1001 b. Bran and Pollard. —Very firm conditions are reported in the market for Australian pollard. Quotations range from £lO 5s to £lO 10s a ton. The rate fixed by the Wheat Committee i? unaltered at £7 a ton. Bran has met with an increased demand and i 3 quoted at 7s per 1001 b. The price fixed by the Wheat Committee remains at £6 a ton. Chaff and Oats.—The price remains practicallv on a par with last week’s levels at from £lO 10s to £lO 15s a ton.
