VON TIRPITZ’S SON
ARRIVAL ON AWATEA MAKING ECONOMIC STUDY (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Monday Passengers on the Awatea to-da 1 included Herr W. von Tirpitz, son o the late Admiral of the German Navy and Drs. P. Lederer and A. Reithinger leading German doctors and director! of I. G. Forbenindustrie, one of Germany’s big chemical firms,* who an visiting New Zealand in the course o: a world tour to make general economic studies. In an interview Herr von Tirpits said he was taken prisoner when tin cruiser Mainz was sunk in August 1914. He spent the rest of the wai as a prisoner in Wales and Holland After the war he was a. journalist anc later joined his present firm. Describing his experience as a prisoner of war, lie said: “it was a horrible tiling to he a prisoner of war when a young man but I cannot complain as to tlie -treatment given me it's not a pleasant thing to he penned up with a lot of other people in enemx country. However, it’s all over now and I hope- such a thing will nevei happen again.” Asked about the situation in Germany. he smiled and said: “I am a private person and my outlook is .not political. It is six months since I left Germany and a lot has happened since then.” ____
