TRAINING DIFFICULTIES

TE AWAMUTU ACTIVITIES PROGRESS OF CANDIDATES (By Telerraph.—Special to Tlmeal TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday Owing to extensive alterations to the course proper and Inside grass tracks and extensive alterations to the lawn and buildings, the Waipa course Is under complete reconstruction, and when finished will be one of the most picturesque in the Dominion. The hill behind the stands has been cut down and terraced. The grandstand, stewards’ stand and totalisator house have all been moved back and are now in their new positions. The course has been ploughed with the Deisel tractor, and is now being prepared for grassing. However, trainers are working under difficult conditions, having only the small inside grass, which is not pegged, making timing impossible. The number of horses prepared for Te Rapa and Ellerslie engagements are working excellently. Hutana looks in good order and has returned from Hawera, where he acquitted himself with honours. Loombination galloped this morning and has prospects at Te Rapa in the Horotiu Handicap. His turn should «ome, as he works well. Celtic Lad should acquit himself well in the Waikato Hurdles and make amends for past defeats. Muskon worked, but has no immediate engagements. British Nation looks particularly bright and in the absence of Superior Guard should race prominently. Te Monowai is as brilliant as ever and is in capital form. Further honours are in store for this consistent little mare. Sweet Rose, who is making her first appearance this season, is ■working well, and should require a race or two before she reaches form. A brilliant mare when right, Arawa Rose has come to no harm from her recent races and worked in honest fashion this morning. Superior Guard was absent from the tracks this morning owing to a leg Injury which will in all probability prevent him from racing at Te Rapa as he has been eased in his work. This is most unfortunate for his ownertrainer, as Superior Guard was at the top of his form. Cheval de Volee is being allotted useful tasks, also Maxowm, who has been working on the roads. Maxown Is A. Cook's only charge to race at Te Rapa.
