Copyright (Received May 17, 11.10 a.m.) SHANGHAI, May 16 Seaforth Highlanders frustrated a Japanese attempt to take over the district criminal court in the International Settlement. PEKING, May 16 Britain has made representations against the Japanese placing an armed sentry at the entrance to the British Embassy during Prince Chiehibu's return from an inspection of the war area.

On May 5 the Japanese detained Mr Frederick O’Hara, resident secretary of three British iinsurance companies, for alleged violation of the Military and Naval Secrets Protection Law. Detectives previously raided Mr O'Hara's office and seized maps, correspondence and his cameras.
