NEW ZEALAND ELECTION LABOUR PARTY'S CONFIDENCE MR LEE MARTIN IN AUSTRALIA United Press Assn.—Elec Tel. Copyright MELBOURNE, May 1G The New Zealand Minister of Agriculture, Mr W. Lee Martin, accompanied by Mr A. 11. Cockayne, New Zealand Director-General of Agriculture, reached Melbourne yesterday from Canberra after attending the agricultural conference. They suggested a regular system of exchange of field officers between Australian and New Zealand departments. One probable outcome of (he Canberra conference will be stricter supervision of the quality of sheep exported from New* Zealand. Mr Lee Martin will tour Victoria and South Australia, returning to Melbourne at the end of next week. “ New Zealand’s Labour Government does not fear the election," said Mr Lee Martin in an Interview to-day. “Neither does It fear a breakdown of the price guarantee system in a period of depressed export prioes. The Government will go to the electors In November confidently claiming credit for the Improved economic conditions.
“ The great majority of New Zealand dairy farmers would declare against the return of the * Rafferty's rules ” existing before the present system. Perhaps all of them are not completely satisfied, but they realise they have been given stability.”
