WAITING FOR MAIL
QUEUES AT POST OFFICE LATE SORTING IN MORNING EXPLANATION OF AN OFFICIAL The time of tb« sorting of mail* at th* Hamilton Post Office in ttm morning has been criticised in complaints received by the Hamilton Chamber oi Commerce and instances of queues ol business people waiting a considerable time after *.30 a m. for the mail in the morning have been cited. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce last evening when a representative of the Postal Department. Mr T. B. Lendrum. was in attendance. Mr Lendrum said that, admittedly, there had been delays in th* sorting of the mam trunk mails early in the morning on many ocrasions and the position had not been overlooked by the chief postmaster. We rely to a great extent." said Mr Lendrum. upon the time at which the mails are received at the Hamilton office. The arrival time fluctuates a great de3l according to the schedule maintained by the express trains. If the expresses were on time the mail should be sorted by 8.30 a.m. “Another factor which often delays sorting is the volume of the mail received. It is definitely not a matter of too small a staff to cope with the mail.”
