CAMBRIDGE DOMAIN ANNUAL MEETING OF BOARD At the annual meeting- of Domain Board yesterday Mr S. Lewis was re-elected chairman for his tenth successive year. In the annual report the chairman paid tribute to the services of the board’s young- gardeners, Messrs. R. J. and E. McDonnell, and reviewed the improvements during- the year, particularly the new pergola between the top and middle bowling greens. Mr Lewis also thanked the members for their enthusiastic cooperation. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £2l which was regarded as very satisfactory In view of the heavy expenditure incurred during the year on the board’s properties.
MORRINSVILLE
POLO CLUB’S PERFORMANCE The success of the Morrinsville Polp Club in winning the New Zealand Junior Championship Cup, the Auckland Province Junior Cup and half-a-dozen other trophies last season was celebrated at a gathering of supporters at which the club's players were the guests of the evening. Mr J. 11. uaddes, president since its inception in 1 93 5, was in the chair, and among those present were the Mayor (Mr W. T. Osborne), the Mayor-elect (Mr W. Hetherington), and representatives of the Waihou and Waerengu Polo Clubs. Tributes were paid to the enthusiasm of Mr Frank Klaus, captain of the Morrinsville A team, who had trained a team of boys who were novices at the game when the club was formed. Mr Klaus
had also placed his ponies and equipment at the disposal of club members, and last season had provided a polo field on his farm when the ground in Morrinsville was being levelled. On display were the numerous trophies ■won by the club during the season. These Included the New Zealand Championship Cup, the New Zealand Handicap Cup, the Auckland Provincial Junior Cup, the Abbott Cup, the Boys’ Cup' and the Waikato Ladles’ Cup, and the four replicas of the Savile Cup, which go to the members of the Morrinsville A team as junior champions of New Zealand. Enlarged photographs of the Morrinsville Polo Club’s A and B teams and the trophies they had won were presented by M-r Klaus to the following players: T. Mellow, R. Douglas, J. Klaus, H. Klaus, P. Swarbrick, T. Scott, G. Spence, I. Harris. Reference was made to the new polo ground which has been made at the Morrinsville Recreation Ground during the past year. This will be available for play next summer, and will become the permanent headquarters of the club. Thanks were expressed to the Morrinsville Borough Council Tor its action In having the ground levelled. Basketball The first games of the Morrinsville Basketball Association were played at the new courts on the Recreation Ground on Saturday. Results were as follows: Old Girls 2 1 beat Patetonga 8; Combined 3 beat Tartans 1. The teams were as follows: Old Girls: P. Mueller, J. Greaves, J. Webb, B. Gubb, M. Rose, J. Cole, J. Mellars, C. Anderton, E. Thompson, T. Cunnold. Patetonga: D. Pulman, P. Plummer, j. Plummer, A. Wilson, T. Henderson, U. O’Dwyer, M. Fowler, M. Reid, P. Appleby. Tartans: J. McGregor, G. 'Rushton, J. Fussey, Z. Rushton, J. McDonald, E. Rushton, R. Jones, N. Hastie, M. Martin. Combined: V. Sanders, D. Pulman, J. Plummer, M. Rose, M. Fowler, P. Appleby, M. Johnston, U. O’Dwyer, Cunnold.
