CANCER CURES

CLAIMS BY A SURGEON DRAMATIC ADVANCES MADE REMOVAL OF GROWTH GUARANTEE United P.ess Assn.—Elec. Tel Copyright (Received Mav 14. 11.’40 a.m.T ' LONDON. May 13 “Dramatic advances” in the treatment of cancer were claimed by Dr. Cecil Rowntree. senior surgeon, at the annual meeting of the Royal Cancer Hospital. Hp said that during the. past year, with the latest and most efficient apparatus possible, they had consolidated the. somewhat tentative conclusions regarding the best methods for treating different kinds. They now knew which were best treated by a surgical operation and which by using a lowvoltage type of X-ray machine. They were constantly curing cancer on the face, lip and skin generally, withsuch certainty, simplicity and safety as had never been experienced previously. If given such cases In a reasonably early stage they were able to guarantee complete and speedy disappearance of the growth.

MANY AUCKLAND CURES NOTHING DRAMATIC IN RESEARCH (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Saturday “There has been nothing that could really be termed dramatic in cancer research for many years,” said Dr. \Y. Gilmour, pathologist at the Auckland Hospital and chairman of the cancer consultation committee, commenting on to-day’s London cable. Many hundreds of cases of lace, lip and skin are treated annually in Auckland and there was a very high percentage of complete cures. The profession had come to expect cures rather than failures. An interesting fact was that cancer of the face was more common in the North island than tlie South Island. This was associated with the fact that there was stronger sunlight in the north. There was a very real danger in constant over-exposure to the sun.
