Copyrtg-tv MONTREAL, May 11 It is announced in Washington that President Roosevelt feels himself powerless under the law to override Mr Ickes objection to the export of helium to Germany, although five other Cabinet making up the National Munitions Control Board, do not agree with his contention that the quantity contemplated for sale to Germany is of military importance, and thus not exportable. The sale is possible only if the board unanimously approves.
Dr. Von Eckener lias made a statement expressing keen disappointment at the President’s decision, and says he does not know how it will be possible to maintain the operation of zeppelin traffic. He fears the necessity for tlie disbandonment of the service, which would entail the dismissal of the trained personnel. He adds: "It. means the death sentence of commercial lighter-lhan-air craft.”
