LESS FACIAL ECZEMA

IMPROVEMENT IN POSITION FROSTS CHECK DISEASE With pasture growth throughout the Waikato checked by the first frosts, farmers report that the position in regard to facial eczema has' improved considerably, particularly among the dairy herds. The feeding of hay to the flocks and herds, which were removed to bare fields with ample shade, has proved beneficial in the majority of cases and some affected herds are reported to Jiave completely recovered. Some difficulty has been experienced in getting the sheep to eat hay. but when this has been smeared with molasses they have taken fairly readily to it. Butchers are now obtaining increased supplies of mutton, for more fat sheep are coming forward at the saleyards where all the entries hre sold under a guarantee. That the disease has not been responsible for any lack of confTdence in the market for dairy cattle has been indicated by the high values being paid both at the yards and in the paddock for dairy heifers, prices for this class commonly ranging from £9 to £lO.
