PERSONAL

Mr G. H. Bell, president of the' New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association, is visiting Hamilton. Mr P. J. Alley, assistant city engineer, of Invercargill, has been appointed borough engineer of Taumarunui. Mr C. E. Robertson, of Wellington, manager of the stud stock depwtment of Messrs Wriglit, Stephenson and Company, is visiting Hamilton. Captain A. Vigna, newly appointed secretary to the Italian Consulate at Wellington, arrived at Wellington by the Wanganella yesterday. Mr Justice Ostler, who had a serious illness last December, from which he has not fully recovered, has been granted extended leave of absence Mr H. Rothwell was granted six months' leave of absence at a meeting of the Hamilton Technical College Board of Managers last evening.

Messrs D. McCormick, M. T. McCormick, R. Mortlock (Haw-era), H. Taylor, G. R. Bowden (Wellington;, \V. E. Sell, H. Armon, A. E. Anderson and F. Lowrie’ (Auckland) are at the Hamilton Hotel.

* Mr Kiichi Gunji, newly-appointed Consul-General for Japan in New Zealand, arrived in Auckland, from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr Gunji paid his first official call on the Gov-ernor-General, Viscount Galway, soon after his arrival.

Mr R. J. Richards, headmaster of Christ's College, Christchurch, will leave next week for England, where he Intends to remain until the end of the year. During his absence abroad Mr J. Monteath will be acting-head-master of Christ’s College.

The Hon. F. Langstone, Minister of Lands, will leave Wellington to-mor-row for the National Park to attend a meeting of the Tongariro National Park Board at the Chateau Tongariro 'on Saturday morning. The Minister will proceed to Tokaanu in the afternoon to inspect the native land development blocks, and from there he will travel to Taupo, where he will stay on Saturday night.
