CURRENT PROGRAMMES ROXY THEATRE A romance laid against a spectacular newspaper “war" in a large city brings lovely Frances Farmer and stalwart Fred Mac Murray to the screen in “Exclusive.” Mac Murray and the girl’s father (Charles Ruggles) are employed by a newspaper committed to a reform policy. Miss Farmer goes to work for a paper owned by a corrupt politician (Lloyd Nolan . and is forced to oppose her sweetheart and father. Her deviation from the highest principles of journalism gets her into difficulties, from which she is extricated only after an aroused city descends upon the politician. The plot of “Night Key,” starring Boris Karloff in his latest screen vehicle, centres around the fight of an inventor to force payment for a system which he has invented, but which has been stolen from him.

A popular Popeye the Sailor cartoon is also screened.

CIVIC THEATRE Rider Haggard’s exciting story of romance and adventure in South Africa, “King Solomon's Mines,” has been brought to the screen very successfully. The cast includes Cedric Hardwicke, Paul Robeson, Roland Young, Anna Lee. John Loder, and hundreds of native extras. All the excitement and glamour of the story have been caught and in addition Paul Robeson sings three stirring numbers. “School for Husbands” is a brilliant comedy, presenting husbands and wives with splendid opportunities of seeing themselves as others see them, “SECOND HONEYMOON” A bright comedy-romance which reunites the screen's popular sweethearts Loretta Young and Tyrone Power for their fourth picture, “Second Honeymoon.” lo he screened tomorrow, casts Claire Trevor opposite -T. Edward Bromberg, noted character actor. They play an amusing sophisticated couple who casually toss interesting lit tie monkey-wrenches into every romance they come across, just to observe the effects. REGENT THEATRE Tn “Keep Fit,” the popular English comedian, George Forrnby, whose “Feather Your Nest” was so funny, is seen in some exciting and diverting adventures in the endeavour to live up to the title. His experiences keep the audience in hilarious mood throughout. Mr Formby, who introduces some tuneful melodies, is supported by a strong cast.

‘‘THE BUCCANEER” ‘‘The Buccaneer,” to be screened on Saturday, is based on the story of Jean Lafltte, a man who played a big part in bringing about the defeat of British rule In the then American Colonies. Fredrio March is cast in the role of the swaggering, bombastic hero, who, though a pirate, is a sort of American Robin Hood. Franciska Gaal makes an attractive heroine. Others in the cast, include Akim Tamiroff, Beulah Bondi, Margot Grahame, lan Keith and Hugh So!hern (as Uen- ! eral Andrew Jackson). THEATRE ROYAL “Moonlight. Murder” is an exciting mystery film dealing with the slaying of a great opera tenor before 20,000 witnesses in the famous Hollywood Bowl. Lavish operatic sequences, showing portions of the opera “II Trovatore” as produced at the Bowl, lend spectacle and lavish music to the uncanny mystery. The ingenious plot throws suspicion on practically every member of the cast. “The Perfect Gentleman” is at times screamingly funny, with Cicely Courtneidge and Frank Morgan giving great comedy performances. Major Horatio Charteris {Frank Morgan), keeping up his patrician appearance, despite his desperate condition, Is forced to flee to the country to his son John, the vicar of a small village church. The major happens to stumble in upon a tea-party where John and his fiancee. Evelyn, are entertaining the local bishop, with amusing results.

“THE BLACK DOLL” “The Black Doll,” in which sens.vt.ion and comedy are combined very cleverly, and “The Shadow,” featuring Rita Hayworth and Charles Quigley, will be screened to-morrow. STATE THEATRE “Secret Agent” is the exciting story of a secret service man who sets out to thwart a German spy during the Great War. The tragic element enters with the cold-blooded killing of a suspected spy. Under the assumed name of “Ashenden,” Edgar Brodie, in private life a best-seller novelist, proceeds to Switzerland, where he finds fhe secret service has provided him with a woman aliv who masquerades as his wife, with sensational results, Robert Young, Madeleine Carroll and John Gielgud head the cast. “Fang and Slaw’ ’evokes thrills by a rapid succession of hairbreadth escapes and breathtaking struggles between man and animal, both in pursuit and capture. It deals with Frank Buck's exciting adventures in the jungles. TO-MORROW’S PROGRAMME “ The Sky's the Limit,” featuring the popular Jack Buchanan, will be screened to-morrow. It is full of excitement and comedy.
