GOSSIP FROM ALL PARTS
With a continuation of present fTne weather conditions the going at Te Rapa should be in splendid order for the Waikato Winter meeting. Following the recent rains there is a thick sole of grass on the course proper. Raceline Raceline failed in her engagements on either day of the Egmont meetingTo Reappear Sing Lee is to make a reappearance in the Horotiu Hack on Saturday week after a prolonged absence from racing. Prlnoe Acre In the event of the going being heavy for the approaohing Winter meeting of the Waikato Racing Club Prince Acre will possess prospects. He is a fine mudlark and has been doing his work well In recent weeks. Jan Rldd Jan Ridd has been nominated for hurdle events at the Waikato meeting but one would assume from his showing at Pukekohe last week that he will need further racing before he Is seen to advantage over the obstacles.
Miss Clipper Miss Clipper is entered for the Otorohanga Hack the first day here, but she will need to show improvement on latest essays to make her presence felt. Her displays at the Tauranga gathering were most disappointing. Valamlto Valamito’s form at the Avondale gathering held promise of better things and the four-year-old son of Vanls will not be without his measure of support in the President's Handicap. He is a good sort when right and appears to be coming back to his best again. Lady England Lady England should be all the better for racing at the recent Hawera meeting where on the seoond day she finished within three lengths of the more seasoned Silk Sox. Lady England is on the minimum in the Waikato Hurdles the first day here and Is not without prospects of springing a surprise.. Mana Mana, who appeared in the list of weights as Moana. is entered for the Melville Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase on the flTst day of the Waikato meeting. In his hack hurdle engagement at Pukekohe last Saturday he lost ground at the start and was never afterwards In the picture.
Great Northern Meeting General entries for the Great , Northern meeting of the Auckland i (Racing Club, to be staged at Ellerslle j on June 6, 9 and 11, close on Friday, at 5 p.m. with the secretary (Mr W. S. Spence), Auckland. \ Waikato Acceptances Monday Acceptances for the first day of the j Waikato Racing Club's Winter meet- I ing at Te Rapa, on Saturday and j Monday, May 21 and 23, close on ; Monday at 5* p.m. with Messrs Blom- j field and Co., Shortland Street, Auck- j land, and at 8 p.m. with the secretary j (Mr E. H. O'Meara), P.O. Box 56, \ Hamilton. J Tradesman Tradesman Is still handily placed j in the handicap and a line through his j fTne win among the sprinters at the j Pukekohe meeting last Saturday would suggest he will have to be reckoned with when he goes into the starter's hands here. He won really well the other day at Pukekohe and It will not be on the score of condition if he fails to reproduce that form.
Prospects of Whirling Whirling has been moving along steadily in his preparation at Te j Rapa since racing unsuccessfully in j the Easter Handicap last month and it should not be on the score of condition if he fails to show to ad- | vantage in engagements at the local j meeting next, week- If rain falls in the interim his chances will be enhanced as he is in his element when winter going obtains.
Gay Rose Gay Rose has indicated in the past that she is not too reliable on occasions, but she was seen at her best at Avondale the first day when she beat Francis Drake in a good finish i in the Foley Memorial Handicap. She | carried 8.7 then and her Rib rise in the President’s Handicap the first day j of the Waikato meeting will not stop an optimistic section according her liberal support in the betting lists.
Day Wind Day Wind showed encouraging form at the recent Avondale meeting, finishing a commendable third the first day to Gay Rose and Francis Drake and beating all but the placed division the second day. If at all improved by those outings he may be seen to better advantage in the President’s Handicap at Te Rapa next week. Rolllcker When Rollicker won the open sprint on the first, day of the Avondale meeting he accomplished the task in most decisive style coming through in the straight to gather in the opposition and beat, it, pointlessly. Since that outing Rollicker has been doing his work in commendable style at headquarters and it should not be on the score of condition if he fails to reproduce his best in engagements at the Waikato meeting on Saturday and Monday week.
Malaglgl Malagigi is handily placed with 8.1 in the chief flat event on the first day of the Waikato meeting and he will need only to give of his best on the day to be one of the hardest to dispose of. He beat all but the placed division the first day at Avondale and was within a neck of the winner Airam in the Autumn Handicap the second day. The long Te Rapa straight will suit a free strider like Malagigi and it would appear at this stage that he will be one of the favoured division. All Irish All Irish is making splendid progress at Ellerslie in preparation for important jumping events ahead and this fine Jumper should strip in splendid fettle for racing at the Waikato Winter fixture. On the first day he has been nominated for the Te Rapa Steeplechase and he promises to be one of the hardest to dispose of. His showing here will be fraught with additional interest in view of the Great Northern meeting. In his four starts this season he has won three times, the last occasion being over hurdles at the Avondale meeting. Requiem Now that Requiem, a disappointment earlier in the season, has become solid, further success should be in store for the Te Awamutu representative. On the latter day at Egmont she won the 'Champion Hack Plate in attractive style- Not too well placed early in the running she had to make a fast run on the outer to be handily placed at the straight entrance. Half-way down the running she had the leaders collared and then carried on to win with something in reserve. She had 8.2 on that occasion over the mile d.'stance and has been risen lulb for her Horotiu Hack engagement the first day here.
