ALMADALE STUD SALE KEEN VALUES REALISED large bench of buyers The opportunity t 0 buy high-class cattle from one of the oldest established Jersey studs in the Dominion was taken by prominent Jersey breeders representative of the principal dairying districts of the North Island when they attended the first day's auction in the complete dispersal sale of the well-known Almadalc Stud, the property of Mr W. 11. Miers, at the homestead. Hototuna, yesterday. Bids came freely for the tops of the offering, the prices during the day ranging from 10 to 105 gns. The offering comprised the entire herd of 149 head, some 85 head being disposed of yesterday at highly satisfactory values. The sale was conducted by Messrs. Wright Stephenson and Company, with Mr C. E. Robertson in the rostrum. Keen inquiry was shown by North Auckland end southern buyers, the day's top prices being paid by outside buyers, the well-known Whangarei breeder, Dr. George Walker, buying three outstanding sorts at prices above 70 gns. Waikato breeders were also well represented and some choice types were retained for the district. Top Price Bull for North Bids were not slow to come on the four-year-old bull, Almadale Panther, an animal with plenty of appearance and with good butterfat records on both sides of his pedigree. A son of Faskin Owlet Fox and Jersey Brae Lily, H.G., and tracing on both sides to -the great bull, Te Rapa Lad, Almadale Panther was good buying for Mr D. Mclnnes, of Hikurangi, at 105gns., the top price of the day. The top price for females, 90gns., was paid by Dr. Geo”ge Walker for a five-year-old daughter of the outstanding imported bull, General Cowslip's Pioneer, and Almadale Stylish Lady. Dr. Walker’s purchase, Almadale Elect, was. an attractive sort In every way with an enviable show ring record. For another daughter of General Cowslip’s Pioneer, Dr. Walker was the final bidder at 75gns. This was a five-year-old cow from the noted producer and show prize winner, His Lordship's Choice, lI.C. and a cow with several good production records to her credit. She was good buying for tlie North Auckland breeder. Winner of over 20 championships at leading shows in the Dominion, the outstanding old cow, Noble's Choice, Y.H.C., which has done much to establish the reputation of the Jersey breed in New Zealand, attracted keen interest when she entered the ring. Doubly descended from the imported bull, Soumise Majesty, and by Noble Soumlse out of the great breeding cow, Kudie’s Choice, Mr Miers’ foundation cow commanded brisk competition.
