Copyright LONDON, May 9 In dismissing Mrs Beresford’s appeal against the judgment of the Appeal Court. 1 lie House of Lords held • that although the insurance company agreed to pay on life policies for £50,000 after the expiration of a year, oven if assured that, deceased committed suicide while of sound mind, such a contract could not he enforced owing to the recognised principle that a man cannot by recourse to law claim benefit from a crime. On March 23. 1937, the Appeal Court, holding I hat it was clear that Major Rowlandson committed suicide in order to allow his estate to collect the insurance allowed the Royal insurance Company's appeal against a j judgment for £42.469 in favour of Mrs (D. Beresford, Major Rowlandson's i niece.
