OBITUARY

MRS S. A. ALEXANDER The death occurred in Hamilton yesterday of Mrs Sarah Ann Alexander, aged 72 years. The :nte Mrs ALiXitide? was born at Ngaruawahia in 1865 just after the cessation cf hoslh.ti :s between the Maoris and Europeans in the \Vaiketo. With her parents, the late Mr and Mrs David Leitch, deceased for seme time tiesided at K.’iikihi where her father was engaged in farming before going to the Thame* early in the seventies, and tikug up bush contracting. Later Mrs Alexander lived at the Orongo block near Thames and resided in the district until her marriage in July, 1888, when she and her husband went to Hawke’s Bay- Here they remained for about 11 years. Before retiring to Hamilton 19 years ago, Mr and Mrs Alexander also lived at Pahiatua and Hikutaia. Mrs Alexander maintained an interest in the Waikato Winter Show Association, being a member of the ladies’ committee for many years. Her husband, Mr A. K. Alexander, was a past president of the association and is a member of the committee. Other institutions with which Mrs Alexander was connected were the Mothers’ League and the Ladies’ Guild of the Anglican Church. She is survived by a widower, two sons and one daughter. They are Messrs Leo Alexander (Manawaru), i Reginald Alexander (Tuakau) and Mrs |G. Henwood (Wharepoa). There are | >ix grandchildren and two great grandi children.
