FOOTBALLER KILLED

EVIDENCE AT INQUEST WARNING BY DOCTOR “ In cases such as this in which injuries to the head, neck or back occur it is in the patient's interest that a doctor should be called rather than transfer him to a doctor," commented Dr. G. B. lsdale, of Ngaruawahia, at the Inquest to-day into the death of a young quarter-caste Maori farmhand, Paul Halbert (22), of Taupiri, who was fatally injured while playing football at Ngaruawahia on April 23. In evidence the.doctor stated that deceased was brought, to him by car and was suffering from an apparent fracture of the fifth or sixth vertibrae. Evidence was given that deceased was tackled by two players in a friendly game and the coroner, Mr F. W. Platts, returned a verdict of accidental death.
