SPECTACULAR ESCAPE
PRISONERS DURING WAR PLANS FOR A REUNION Lulled Pre3» Assn.— Elec. Tel. copyright •LONDON, May 9 A world-wide search has been started for 27 former British officers who took part in the most spectacular escape of prisoners during the war* This was the escape from the prison camp at Holzminden, Germany, by the excavation of a tunnel, 150 yards long, which took 10 months to make. Two of the officers are dead and 10 are in England. The remainder are scattered. They include a Tasmanian, Captain Purves, and an Australian named Lyon, whose initials and addresses are not known, and a former Air Force officer, L. J. Bennett. A member of the Air Force Club, Piccadilly, is organising the search in order to invite the men in question to London to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the escape with a reunion on June 23. He recalls that there were 000 Britons at Holzminden, of whom 29 attempted to escape, and 19 were recaptured. The remainder passed over the frontier.
