LARGE HOUSE BURNED
OCCUPANTS’ HURRIED EXIT NOTHING SAVED FROM FLAMES (By Telegraph.—Press Association) HASTINGS, Saturday Fire completely destroyed a large house in Omahu Road owned by Mr G. C. Tripe early this morning. Although the property was outside the borough the Hastings Brigade was called to the scene but was unable to do anything to save the dwelling, which was a complete loss. The occupants were almost trapped by tlie blaze and saved few personal effects. The house, a two-storeyed one. had been leased to Messrs P. Mollov and C. A. Litfin during Ihe absence in England of the owner. The lessees returned home after work at about 3.30 a.m. and were aroused by the noise of fire about 6 a.m., to find a greater portion of the house in flames. They had time only u> pull on a few clothes and escaped without footwear or any other belongings. The fire apparently began in the front portion of the house and must have been burning for some time before its discovery. The contents were insured with Lloycls for £1365 and the house with the same company for £2500.
