NEW ZEALAND WOMEN
COURT PRESENTATION CANCELLED INTERVIEWS TO NEWSPAPERS United Press Assn.— Elec. Tel. Copyright LONDON, May 8 The Lord Chamberlain’s office has cancelled arrangements which had been made for the presentation at Court of two New Zealanders, Miss Kathleen O’Brien and Mrs William Webster. It It believed that Interviews they gave to newspapers caused the decision, which was communicated to New Zealand House. Miss O’Brien is working as hostess in a hotel at Manchester. Mrs Webster was a member of the New Zealand delegation at the Coronation, and was present at the Abbey service, and at the Palace garden party. She is acting as hostess in a store at Liverpool for charity, while undergoing medical treatment. Miss O’Brien is quoted by some of the newspapers as saying she would have no trouble in curtsying as she had taught it to debutantes in New Zealand. Mrs Webster, in an interview, said i she had become bored in Liverpool and offered her services to a store for charity. Mrs Webster told a representative of the Daily Herald: “The Lord Chamberlain’s decision is a bitter blow' to my hopes. I had to visit London frequently to supervise the making of Court gowns. I have had to resign my position as fashion hostess.” The Sunday Graphic states that an official says the Lord Chamberlain is reconsidering his decision, as the women may not be aware of the rule against interviews, or may have forgotten it.
