AUTUMN WEDDING
CEREMONY AT AUCKLAND KM PS ON —RY BURN Kings College Chapel at Middlemore provided the setting for the marriage on Saturday of Bertha Gladys, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs F. J. B. Ryburn, “The Oaks,’’ Paterangi, to Charles Howard, eldest son of Mr and Mrs S. A. Empson, of Te Awamutu. Tall vases of white hydrangeas and golden-shaded chrysanthemums decorated the chapel. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. G. T. Robson, chaplain R.N., assisted by the Rev. Martin Sullivan, vicar of Te Awamutu, and Mrs Sullivan presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a. gown of richest tea rose Rio pearl satin, pin-tucked from the centre back of the neck to the end of‘the long train which fell into three large petals. A tiny posy of orange blossom finished the low, softly-draped neckline and the sleeves that were full at the shoulder formed an unusual star at the wrist. Her only jewels were a family heirloom necklet of seed pearls threaded to form a rose design. Her heavily embroidered Limerick lace veil, which was over UiO years old and was worn by her mother, was held in place by a coronet of irridescent orange blossom studded with pearls. She carried a beautiful sheaf of orchids, carnations and roses, shading from deep cream to gold. ’Maids’ Sunset Gold Frocks The bridesmaids were Misses Betty Ryburn, sister of the bride, Catherine Germann, of Paterangi, Yvonne Ryburn, sister of the bride, and Barbara Hill, cousin of the bridegroom. Their frocks were fashioned on similar lines, the two former ’maids in an old gold shade and the two latter in honey gold, giving an effect of sunset gold. The panelled frocks had very heavily iiared skirts, with concentrated fullness at the backs, and the high necklines were finished in a petal effect, and the full sleeves were caught with tiny buttons. An unusual feature of the" frocks were their flower-trimmed wide belts with a Juliet tie of autumn velvet ribbon. They wore head bands of Indian gold filigree and carried sheaves of shaded golden chrysanthemums.
Mr Allan Empson, brother of the bridegroom, was best man, and Mr B. E. E. Featherstone, of Auckland, was groomsman. The ushers were Messrs C. F. ißyburn, J. S. H. Empson, G. H. O. Ahier, A. R. Scott and T. Hanson.
A reception was held afterwards at the Parnell Park Kiosk, where Mr. and Mrs Ryburn received their guests assisted by Mr and Mrs Empson. The bride's mother was wearing a frock of aquamist crepe de laine with toning peachbloom hat, and grey necklet, and carried a posy of gold flowers. Mrs. Empson wore a smart navy tailored suit with a hat trimmed with gold, and fox furs. She carried a posy of daphne and violets. The bride's godmother, Mrs W. Scott, wore black woollen crepe-de-chine with grey sable coatee. Miss S. V. Empson, aunt of the bridegroom, wore a bottle-green woollen tailored suit with toning accessories. When Mr and Mrs Howard Empson left on the honeymoon the • bride chose a smart suit of nepal brown cotelaine, the coat being embroidered in gold tinsel threads, with a brown velvet toque.
