WAIKATO HUNT

OPENING OF SEASON RECORD FIELD ATTENDS (special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE’, Sunday. One of the largest attendances for many years attended the opening or the Waikato Hunt at -‘Ngaheke,” the master’s homestead, on Saturday. Hounds raised their first hare In Mr William Brown's property, and with scent breast high, they set a fast pace througn the farms or Messrs, w. Harbutt and M. Phillips before crossing the main drain, where she was killed on the land of Mr w. R. Beer. This was a great run or over 2$ miles, and with the country stiff and horses green tnere were numerous mishaps. Quite a number or the riders returned to the homestead carrying visible marks or having tasted tne sort turr. Another hare was raised on Mr Percy Hunt's property. She led the Held rlgnt round the farm and through the bush to Mr Harbutt’s undulating country. Hounds were eager and kept tne nrst of the riders two or three fields away. The quarry saved her scut, however, by running 10 ground in the busn. After several short chases, hounds were called off, and the field and spectators returned to “ Ngaheke,” where they -were entertained to afternoon tea by the master, Mr Wynn Brown, and MIM Rhoda Brown.
