May 6 An Irish schoolboy golfer, James Bruen, aged 17. when participating in the Walker Cup trials at St. Andrews went, round in 68, equalling Bobby Jones’ amateur record. He did the second round in 71. Cyril Tolley, chairman of the selectors. described Bruen as the greatest modern golfer. He is now regarded as certain of inclusion in the Walker Cup team. Alfred Perry, in the final 6tages of the Southport £I6OO tournament, holed the Erst hole in one.
