WAITING JURORS
ACCOMMODATION PROBLEM LACK OF SEATING AT COURT The vexed question of appropriate accommodation for waiting jurors at the Hamilton Courthouse was brought to the attention of the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, at the conclusion of one of the criminal trials yesterday afternoon. The foreman of the Jury (Mr J. Hvnes) respectfully asked that some better provision In the matter of seating accommodation might be considered before ttye next session. There were no seats at all at the rear of the Supreme Court room, and at times waiting Jurors had waited in the entrance-hall of the courthouse. There had been, said the foreman, a fairly considerable amount of criticism voiced by jurors. With the remarks made by the foreman His Honour expressed complete agreement. There should be adequate seating provided. I The Registrar (Mr G. Clark) : We have applied for the provision of such accommodation in the past, Your Honour. • , ... His Honour: Then apply again, with a direction from the Court. When men are called to perform a duty in what is the highest function of the I state —the administration of justice—the least that can be done is to provide them with decent comfort.
