CROQUET AT TAUPIRI

CLOSING OF THE SEASON To mark the closing of the croquet season the Taupiri Ladies’ Club had arranged an afternoon to be held on the club's lawns, but owing to the unfavourable weather it was necessary to spend the afternoon indoors, and Mrs A. W. Buss kindly offered her residence for the function. Bagatelle and 500 were played, after which afternoon tea was served. Opportunity was taken by members to bid farewell to Mrs E. Sowman, who is leaving the district, and the club president, Mrs T. B. McDowall, presented her with an electric toaster, expressing regret at the great loss the club has sustained.

The president also presented the trophies won during the season, the winners being: A championship, Mrs F. R. Catley; B championship, Mrs E. A. Sowman; club handicap, Mrs J. Murphy; progressive A. Airs A. W. Buss; progressive B, Mrs E. A. Sow-

The five hundred winners for the afternoon were Airs F. Wilson and Airs J. D. Bruce, and the bagatelle winners Airs A. Buss and Airs J. Bruce. At the conclusion of the afternoon the secretary, Airs Sowman, made the presentation of a’ beautiful bouquet to Airs McDowall.
