A STYLISH COLT
RELATED TO ROYAL CHIEF MR R. T. REID'S PURCHASE ACQUIRED IN SYDNEY During his recent visit to Australia. Mr R. T. Reid, of Hamilton, who returned home this week, purchased a stvlished colt by Beau Pere from Modiste 11, a half-brother, therefore, to that fine performer. Royal Chief. The colt was originally knocked down to Mr W. J. Smith, the Sydney sportsman and owner of Beau Pere, for 950 guineas, and was subsequently acquired by Mr Reid at a higher figure. The colt has arrived in Hamilton and Is an attractive-looking youngster. It Is Mr Reid's intention after the colt's racing career Is over, to put him to the stud and it was this that primarily Influenced the purchase. While in Sydney Mr Reid finalised arrangements for his brood mare Comedienne to visit Beau Pere. Mr Reid was impressed during his visit, by the apparent prosperity of the country, despite the severe droughts being 'experienced throughout New South Wales and Victoria. He revisited during his stay a large station of 1 00.000 acres where no rain had fallen since his previous visit in August last vear. In Victoria. Mr C. Keller, the owner of Nuffield, was experiencing his worst dry period during 40 years' residence.
