TE RAPA TRACKS

PUKEKOHE CANDIDATES BEVERAL SMART EFFORTS TOSH—PRINCE ACRE (By “ Martian.”) The No. 2 grass, on which the going was holding after the recent heavy rain, was available for fast work at Te Rapa this morning when a number of local candidates with engagements at the Franklin meeting tomorrow were sent along. The best efforts of the morning were those of Tosh, Prince Acre and Tradesman. Conditions generally were pleasant. Master Brlerly and Prince Rangt were associated over a round, compassing the distance in 1.56. They finished on terms and accomplished their work in good style. Lucidus (AT Gilmer), in a similar essay, clocked 1.595. This member of M. J. Carroll's team is to contest the steeplechase at Pukekohe to-mor-row and as he appears to have benefited by recent racing he should give a good account of himself. Te Poura (J. Winder) finished clear of Niehavo (F. Hain) at the completion of half-a-mile in 53; a useful effort. Rod Fox (Reilly), who is making steady progress, went once round in A Smart Five Furlongs. The best figures of the morning over five furlongs were credited to Tosh (W. Thomson), who finished on terms with Prince Acre (J. Winder) In 1.55, the final half-mile being cut out in 51 ss. Prince Acre relished the conditions and was doing his -work well at the end. Tosh also shaped well. Valpai (F. Hain) was doing better than Sing Lee (A. Bootsma) over the concluding stages of & round in i. 57. Orac (W. Thomson), at home In the going, hit out over seven furlongs, being timed only over the la6t six, which he negotiated in 1-24. Orac looks well. Abbey Lass (J. Winder) brushed home from the three furlong peg In 37 4-5. She is to fulfil Pukekohe engagements. Racette (F. Hain) ran home from the five furlong peg in I.Bs. Tradesman Hits Out. Tradesman (A. Gilmer), who will be having his first start for a spell among the sprinters to-morrow, ran half-mile in 51 4-5, Cappy (Reilly), who assisted him, was some lengths away at the completion of the effort. They were to have galloped five furlongs and, as in the case of Light Comedy, they were past the correct peg when they Jumped off. It was a useful effort on the part of Tradesman and with heavy conditions likely to obtain to-morrow- at Pukekohe he is not without a chance at the weights. Trotters Worked. L. N. Vernall's trotting team, Our McKinney, Nerihana, Wall Street, Masterman and a full-sister to Our McKinney were allotted strong work on the No. 2 grass. Nerihana, Wall Street and Masterman, are engaged at the approaching meeting of the Waikato Trotting Club and all are in forward condition.
