ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

NEW SEASON OPENS FIXTURES FOR TO-MORROW GAMES AT SEDDON PARK With a full programme of games set down for decision, the South Auckland Football Association's 1938 season will gpen to-morrow. All grades have received promising patronage this year and prospects for the competitions appear bright. Four teams have come forward for the senior honours and competition should again be keen. Hamilton Wanderers, the winners of last season's senior titles, will have practically the same personnel as that which carried them to success in 1937, and they will be a force to be reckoned with. To-morrow they will travel to Huntly to meet Starr Town, the runners-up last year. Under the guidance of Mr Ted Hall, an old player who has been a keen follower of tht code for many years, Starr Town have attained a new strength and may be counted upon to give of their best to-morrow. Hamilton patrons of .the sport should be treated to a keen exhibition at Seddon Park when Claudelands novel’s try conclusions with Glen Massey. Although they did not attain any greatness last year Rovers have made several changes in their senior team and may put a different complexion on matters this season. A notable addition to their team is the inclusion of J. James, a nephew of Alec James, the well-known Arsenal inside left. With James playing in goal for Rovers the opposition may find their goaling chances considerably reduced. Pukemiro will not field a team this yea£. This year’s selection committee for the South Auckland representatives comprises Messrs J. Baillie, F. WMead and Don Crabb. Junior Control Board This year it has been found necessary to institute a junior control board to take complete charge of the Junior and intermediate grades. In this connection it is interesting to note that Rotowa.ro have come forward with a junior team and speculation is rife concerning its strength. Rovers A. who have won the junior competition for the last two years, will field the same eleven as in the 1937 season. In the intermediate grade East. Old Boys have gone into recess, but City are fairly strong. The complete draw for to-morrow’s games is as follows:
