FUNCTION AT OPUNAKE MR AND MRS C. H. MARCROFT. (Special to Times). OPUNAKE. Friday. Former residents of Hamilton, Mr' and Mrs C. H. Marcroft. were fare- | welled recenllv on tlicit* departure from] Opunake, where Mr Marcroft, a former] employee of the Waikato Times, was i proprietor of the Opunake Times.] Tributes to their work during seven i rears in the district were paid' iiv the Mayor of Opunake, Mr A. J. Brennan, who referred to Mr Marcroft’s varied activities. Their loss' to !lie district would he severe, lie added. Members of Hie various sporting bodies of which Mr and Mrs Marcroft were members, also spoke eulogisticailv of I heir services, while a message was conveyed on behalf of the Maoris hy Mr R. Diene. Mr Marcroft’s association with Hie Opunake Federal Rand as vice-president was subject of appreciative comment by Mr F. .1 ulian. president. Mr J. S. Tesland spoke on behalf of ihe Returned Soldiers’ Association. Several presentations were made on behalf of the citizens, including 150->ear-old pin pin from the Maoris. Mr Marcroft suitably replied.
