AUGUST MEETING OPENING IN NEW SEASON INTRODUCTORY TO QUERIDA LADY FAME’S CHIEF EVENT (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Saturday The new trotting season in Auckland was opened to-day in good weather at Alexandra Park, Epsom, when the Auckland Trotting Club held its August meeting. Though the track was slightly slow, following showers during the previous night, the going was good and the large crowd was treated to attractive displays of trotting. There were good fields for all the events with the exception of the (big event of the day, the August Handicap, which drew only six acceptances. Lady Bunker, the favourite lost her feet early and was never dangerous while Pink Lady broke several times when In a handy position. Great Guy finished well to pay nearly double figures. Elllotvale and Worthy Lu broke at the start and Lady Bunker went up In the air before they had travelled far and was well back. Passing the stands the second time, after a circuit had been completed. Pink Lady was showing the way to Querlda, Great Guy and Colleen Murphy with a gap or eight lengths to Pura Bingen, Baron Derby and Ellssa. Along the back pink Lady broke and Querlda went to the lead rrom Pink Lady and Great Guy who were well clear of Colleen Murphy, Pura Bingen and Ellssa. Querlda had a two-length advantage over Great Guy at the straight entrance with Pura Bingen next and Pink Lady, who was -breaking again, following. Nothing had a chance with Querlda In the straight and she won easily by two and a-half lengths from Great Guy, who beat Pura Bingen by one and a-half lengths. Pink Lady, who galloped down the straight was fourth followed by Ellssa. Times, 3.41 2-5, 3.42 2-5. 3.35. 3.41 2-5.

Winner trained by owner. Hamilton. The Hamilton stables had their first victory of the meeting in the Mount Eden Handicap when Horl Bingen scored in an end-to-end victory. He lilt the front from the start and showed the way throughout to hold on well to stave orr all challengers over the run home. Worthy Song In gaining second place put up a good performance, being handy over the whole distance and Improving steadily for a strong finish. Grattan Girl made a hot pace over the last three furlongs and was finishing on In running third after be.lng well back In the early stages. The favourite. Guide Peter was never In the running, having broken early. Captain Scott broke up in the first furlong and occupied a rear posftlon throughout and Guide Peter railed to pace evenly. Horl Bingen obtained the better or the start and let out rrom Eyre, Worthy Song. Kewple’s Bingen, Sequoia and Vanora with Kia Kaha pacing the best of the others. Passing the stands the first time there was very little change except that Vanora improved his position a little. The field was stringing out somewhat. Along the back Horl Bingen still had the running bis own way with Worthy Song and Eyre paired Just In behind the leader, sequoia occupied next place In the field, running Just in front of Kewple’s Bingen, lilllcrest and Chill Bean with the others falling to make tlie same headway. When the field turned for home the pace quickened and Horl Bingen was still clear from Worthy Song who had gone up a length in front of Eyre. Next in line were Kewple’s Bingen and Grattan Girl, who was now making a strong effort on the outside. Horl Bingen held sway to cross tlie line a length ahead or Worthy Song who beat Grattan Girl who was gaining all the time, by three-quarters or a length. Forest Jewel was rourtb and then came Sequoia, Eyre and Hillcres L Times, 2.53 3-5, 2.525, 2.514-5.
