gregate of 268, a British record for a major tournament. S. L. King with 270 was second and Eddie Whitcombe with 273 third. Interest in the third round centred on a duel between father and son, in which Eddie Whitcombe took the lead with 67 to Ernest’s 72, but Ernest, with an amazing fourth, round of 64, gained the victory.
